The Rumors are TRUE!!!
Friday night, during the Debut of Dolls and Diamond Awards Cocktail & Banquet, it was announced that I received for my piece "Joy Ride" one of the 2013 Industry's Choice Award of Excellence sponsored by Dolls Magazine and Jones Publishing. This is a HUGE achievement and a major mile-stone for me. Words can not express how happy and proud I am for this accomplishment. For those collectors who follow the doll world, you will know that this is a MAJOR event! And, for those of you who follow my work for special interest, it is suffice to say that this could be a turning point in my career. This one little award could potentially (and hopefully) open the doorway to bigger and better things for my creative journey into the doll world. And, for those of you who have taken the time to invest in my work and continue to encourage me to sculpt and create art dolls, know that this is indeed the proof that states you are truly getting a quality art doll made by a master artist. Thank you to all of you who believed in me and what I could accomplish if I set my mind to it. But, most of all, a very special "thank you" goes out to my wonderful husband for believing in me when I lacked the confidence to believe in myself.
It's Show Time!!!!
One of the long awaited shows of the year has finally arrived....the IDEX 2013 show in Orlando, Florida! (also known as the International Doll Exposition)
I will be showing a few of my dolls in the booth of the International Art Doll Registry. In particular, I will be bringing with me "Joy Ride" which is pictured here to the left and also 2 other pieces that I have just finished up within the last couple of weeks that only a few souls have seen completed!
What is the International Art Doll Registry you ask? (also known as IADR) The International Art Doll Registry is a relatively new organization that has been in operation now for approximately 5 years. It was designed for one-of-a-kind doll artist from around the world. The members reach from as far away as Italy, Australia, England, and here in the United States just to name a few countries in it's vast reaches. Again, the dolls created are one-of-a-kind pieces (OOAK) and made either out of polymer clay, paper clay, cloth and always take on the human form. The IADR membership is opened to advanced artist and novices alike as well as collectors. At the IADR, each artist registers their works of art through the registry, where each piece is designated a registration number that is unique to that piece of work and the artist. Not only does it maintain the authenticity of registration for artist and collectors alike, but it is also a place of learning, where doll artist mingle to share ideas, tips and tricks, and general camaraderie through the forums. I have met many wonderful doll makers through the IADR, many of which have become very dear friends since I have been a member of this doll community. It is definitely a place for doll artist to grow, not only in talent but in soul as well.
As a result, our booth is very unique in the sense that it entails a conglomeration of doll artist located from around the world in one single spot! It is a smorgasbord of delight guaranteed to satiate the appetite of any doll collector in town. It is a melting pot of doll making as it combines different styles, designs and talent from the 4 corners of the globe. It is indeed a unique experience to see so much work from so many countries located in a very small location and in particular, a single booth! Talk about eye candy!
At any rate, it promises to be a wonderful weekend with many exhibitors and collectors alike! I do hope you have the opportunity to come to the event on April 12 to April 14. I will be at the show to help man our booth with a few of our other doll artist who will also be attending the show. On a special note, I will also be attending the Debut of Dolls and Diamond Awards Cocktail & Banquet on April 12 from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. I have entered a few pieces into the Debut of Dolls and Diamond Awards. Wouldn't it be wonderful if one of them was selected! That would make an already fantastic weekend absolutely amazing!
Below is a link to the IDEX 2013 website for more information for those who are interested in attending. I believe the day to attend for the general public/collectors is that Saturday and Sunday, April 13th-14th. Please double check the times for the show below at the link provided.

The Stork has Landed in the Knoll!
There was much excitement here in the Knoll yesterday! The Pixies and Fairies were busy scurrying about in preparation for the grand event. The grandest event of them all that only happens once in a new moon's time! Everything had to be just right for this VERY special occassion! Nothing left undone and everything in it's proper place. What was this grand event you ask? Well, the Stork's arrival of course! When the moon is new and high in the sky, it signal's to the stork that it is time to fly. The stork's arrival brings new beginnings, fulfills wishes and manifest hopes and dreams to the chosen and very special pixie or fairy family. This time, the stork happened to land in my very own home where my son, Jeremy and his girlfriend Becca were blessed with the cutest pixie in all the knoll! All of the inhabitants of the knoll had a great feast and were merry in honor of this special new pixie! The stork arrived right on time at exactly 9:30 a.m. on February 11, 2013. The gift he was bearing was a little baby girl pixie whose chosen name is Chloee March Mitchell. This sweet little pixie weighed in at a whopping 5 lbs and 10 and a 1/4 oz. and measured 18.5 inches in length. Celebrate her birth with us and the other inhabitants of The Pixie Knoll! Welcome to the world with much love little pixie Chloee. ~~~~Grandmama Pixie

Sneak Preview for this coming weekends show!
This is just a reminder for all of you local folks that this coming weekend is the Mount Dora Art Festival, February 2-3, 2013. Again, I will be at the First Presbyterian Church, 222 West Sixth Avenue, Mount Dora 32757 on Saturday only. For those of you not able to attend, I thought it would be fun to put up some of the pieces I have been working on over the month in preparation for the show. I still have about 5 more pieces on the table to finish up, and with luck, I'll have them ready by the show on Saturday morning. If not, they will have to wait to make their debut at a later date! In the meantime, enjoy!
Happy New Year! It starts with an explosion of excitement!
Well, here we are with another year in the makes and tons of resolutions being spoken my mouths every where across the land. Here in The Pixie Knoll, our resolution seems to be focused on up and coming events as this year will be busy from the getgo! Starting over the New Year's weekend, I received the announcement that my Santa, "Father Yule" had won FIRST place in the Santa category at artdolls.com http://artdolls.com/media/?album=27 Imagine my surprise to find out that I had won in my category! That was indeed news to celebrate and ring in the New Year with.
Behind the scenes at The Pixie Knoll, there have been other events unraveling as well. Recently, I was contacted by a writer to do a magazine article about my work and how I will be showing my work at the upcoming IDEX show here in Orlando, Florida. The publication is called the Orlando Arts Magazine and you can read more about it here http://www.unitedarts.cc/interact_page.php?id=26 The article I will be in is rumored to be released for the March/April 2013 issue, just in time for the IDEX show in Orlando. With luck, hopefully it will generate more foot traffic into the show room from the Orlando area residents and in turn, hopefully will generate more sales for the artists.
Aside from that, I was also asked if I wanted to show my dolls and figures at the Mount Dora Arts Festival on February 2nd, 2013. Once again, I'll display my pieces at the First Presbyterian Church, 222 West Sixth Avenue, Mount Dora 32757. I'll be there only for that one day since I'll be located inside the church and not outside along the normal foot traffic. So, if your plans are to visit one of the largest art festivals in Florida that weekend, come by and say hello to me as I would be delighted to meet you!
On a personal level, some of you know that the month of February holds a wonderful little miracle that will pop out and greet the world. My first grandbaby will be making introduction....rumored to be the middle of February! I'll keep you all posted once that moment arrives! After all, a baby is a wonderful creature to stir creativity and help us to step into the land of imagination!
With all the excitement, so far it seems that March will be a "down time" month for me to focus on creating. Especially since the IDEX show is in April!! I know that I will be bring my dragon sculpture "Joy Ride" unless someone decides he needs to go home with them instead by that time. I am already in the midst of creating many little pixies and fairies for the upcoming events. So, only time will tell which pieces I decided to bring with me for the IDEX event. You can read more about the show here http://www.idexshows.com/
Lastly, I am also preparing for the big show in Philadelphia! So, many of the pieces I am currently creating will be in tow for that show in May! You can read about the show here http://www.quinlanmuseum.com/convention/ There will be a ton of OOAK artist there and it promises to be a wonderful event. I have never traveled so far away for a show so this will be a great experience for me.
So, as you can see, this year promises to keep me extremely busy....at least for the first 6 months! With all the events kicking off the year, I am excited to see how they all pan out over time. I am positive that things are moving in the right direction and this is going to be a wonderful year on so many levels, both personally and professionaly.
It is my hope that each and everyone of you are also blessed as this year speeds forward to 2014.

Merry Christmas and Happy Winter Solstice!
With today's calendar marking the Winter Solstice, I thought it would be a good time to wish every one out there a very Merry Christmas and send you and your families warm wishes for a very happy New Year. I hope your holidays are very blessed and full of love.
I also thought it was a great time to share my newest artdoll with you all as well since he has come to represent the Christmas Spirit to so many of us who celebrate the season. I have already posted him to Face Book a few days ago, but for those that do not follow on Face Book, here is a chance for you to see him here! He is called "Father Yule" and was a commissioned piece by a very lovely couple who I am very, VERY fond of. They know who they are! "Father Yule" is approximately 14" tall, has blue glass eyes, lambs wool bearding, faux suede over coat with jingle bell buttons, faux suede cloak with faux fur trim, faux leather belt and boots, corduroy pants and a faux suede sporran, adored with a crown of holly leaves and berries accompanied by his Holly sprig staff.
The response over "Father Yule" was so wonderful, that I am considering recreating a few Santa's that are in his likeness. Each would be a one-of-a-kind piece since I do not use molds, but, they would be recreated in the same likeness as the "Father Yule" you see here, in a limited edition of numbered pieces. If someone should be interested in one of these pieces, please send me an email so that I can add you to the list for your very own "Father Yule"! Now, without further adieu, here he is! Again, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all!

Colliii Awards Announcements.....and the winner is:
"Joy Ride" takes the win for the OOAK Fantasy Figure portion in the Colliii Awards International competition! What a moment of extreme happiness and disbelief! When I first entered the competition with my 3 selections, I really and truly felt that I didn't have a chance this year because the pieces were so different than the typical "dolls" that are entered. But, I knew that if I didn't enter something that I would always wonder how well I would have done despite my choices. Of course, I am biased in my own opinions when I felt that all of them were winners in their own right, but to be honest, I truly did not think I had a chance in the competition. I am so glad that I was wrong in that assumption! Once again, a very humble thank you to all those who voted for my piece "Joy Ride" and to the jury for finding it a worthy piece to win in the category of OOAK Fantasy Figure. Thank you for the honor of this very prestigious award! Words can not express how happy I am at this moment. Please be sure to check out all of the lucky winners and their wonderful work at www.colliii.com
Colliii Awards Certificates!
It's finally arrived! My little mark in the world from the Colliii Awards International contest. Here is my new award certificate along side my certificate from last year. What an accomplishment so far! Thank you to all who made this possible by voting for me! The only thing better than receiving a double nomination 2 years in a row would be to actually place in the contest! Crossing my fingers until Friday's announcement! Wish me luck!
2012 Colliii Awards Announcement! (and some other news tidbits....)
Hello everyone! I am happy to announce that the Colliii Awards have started to post the first rounds of nominees in the different categories! So far, they have posted the nominees for the reborn and OOAK dolls. Apparently, not all of the nominees have not been listed yet so we have to check back again for the final list. But, with all of that said, I am pleased to say that once again I have received a DOUBLE NOMINATION! This is the 2nd year in a row to receive a double nomination. Words can not express how happy I am about this. Thank you to everyone who took the time to vote this year and especially the votes casted in my favor. The final leg to the event is the announcement for the winners that will happen sometime on October 26. For those interested, Colliii Awards will post up a video on their website to see the announcements. (atleast, that is how they did it last year) So be sure to check it out if you are following all the excitement @ www.colliii.com For those of you who were wondering which pieces I entered, here they are! The ones that received the nominations are They Dryad and Joy Ride.
Now, for the "other news tidbits"! I realize that I have not had a lot of production time this year where the sculpting is concerned. Unfortunately life has a tendency to take over some time, but after some long working hours and some "time management", I am pleased to say that currently I have 12 new little figures in the works as we speak! That's right....12! :-D They are all approximately 6" in height not counting their stands! I also have a few "heads" laying about just waiting to know what they will be turning into in the near future. If everything goes according to plan, I should have an ARMY of these little guys! At least, that is what I am hoping for. :-D Once I start to get them completed, I'll be adding some pictures up on the website for your viewing pleasure.
I also want to say that with everything going on this year, I opted NOT to show at the Mount Dora Craft Festival event this year which will be this up coming weekend on Oct. 27-28th. Instead, I decided to put forth some effort and expand my horizons! I figured it was time for me to branch out past my own back yard. In doing so, I have registered to take a trip to Philadelphia! Yes, your eyes do not deceive you! I am registered to show at the Quinlan Doll and Teddy Bear Show the first week of May 2013 in Philadelphia! Although I will miss the local patrons this year at the craft festival, it was a sacrifice I had to make in order to move ahead in the doll and figure industry. Not only will I be showing at the Quinlan Doll and Teddy Bear show, but I will also once again be showing at the IDEX show again with the International Art Doll Registry this upcoming year too. The show dates for this show have been moved to April this year and the venue site has changed as well to the Universal Studios area in Orlando, Florida.
And, now a final announcement that is a small precious tidbit of news.....it appears that sometime in February I am slated to be a first time grandma! Can you believe?!!! It's one of the wee wonders in life that spur imagination onwards. The wee bundle is said to be a little girl!

2012 Colliii Awards Underway!
The 2012 Colliii Awards are upon us once again. What is it? Well, it's one the MOST prestigious doll show contest for doll makers in the world. That's right...it's an International competition based out of Germany! It has everything from one-of-a-kind dolls to reborns, and play dolls and kits. I have entered this contest for the 2nd time, last year receiving 2 nominations. I believe the contest rules state that I am not permitted to place pictures here of my entries, but, what I have entered is my Dryad, Joy Ride, and St. Nicholas dolls. For those interested in voting in this years contest, go to www.colliii.com You will have to register with them in order to place your votes, but don't worry, it's free to register! I am listed under the OOAK (or one-of-a-kind) entries. The way it works is that you will go under that listing category of OOAK, and you will be given a picture to vote on. Basically you select either "yes or no" for your choices, then go to the next picture given to you, until you have voted on every single picture in that category. That is correct, EVERY picture gets a vote by you. Right now it is open to the "public" voting up until September 30. Once the public voting is completed, those entries who have received the most "yes" votes are passed on to the "judges" panel to have a final vote. So get out there and support your favorite doll artist. There are a lot of fantastic entries this year!
More paintings for Creative Canvas and Wine
I realize it has been a few months since I last updated this page, but, life has been extremely hectic of late for this creative soul. With the addition of the new part-time job at Creative Canvas and Wine, my spare time in itself has become a precious thing of the past. As mentioned in my last post, part of the job requirements are not only learning the "existing" paintings in the studio, but also "designing" new material for future classes. Below, you will find 8 new paintings that I have designed over the last couple of months to bring into the studio. These paintings are all 16" x 20" in size. This is the standard format used for the shop studio. At any rate, as you can imagine, not every idea or concept turns out as a masterpiece from the get-go. Some times, they take a few tries before they turn out as you expect them.
Recently, I was approached by a friend who asked if I would re-create a painting for her to have as her own to hang in her local business. Upon completion of the project, she was so delighted with it that she suggested I should offer the same services to my collector base. Especially since the shop does not own the rights to my paintings. So, I have given this idea much thought and have finally come to the conclusion that perhaps it is a great idea after all! What I would like to do for those of you who are interested is to re-create the paintings for purchase. What it boils down to is you would recieve a painting that is very similar in design and color to that of the original painting, but, it would be a new, one-of-a-kind painting. So in a way, it would be like you are getting a "print" of the original, but your painting would be an original too since it would be a brand new painting! Since I am always creating new paintings, the list of paintings will grow over time, therefore the selection will get bigger and more varied. For the time being, the size of the paintings will continue to be 16" x 20" in size since that is how I orginally created them. Later, I may branch out to different sizes. The prices will be $75.00 + shipping per painting and will be made payable via PayPal. If you order a painting you should allow at least 2 weeks for me to create it, depending on how many orders I may have. If I think it will be longer, I will let you know in email. I will be creating a new page here on the website that is specifically for the paintings. So, be sure to check out that page for further details if you are interested in making a purchase. Feedback is always welcome on anything that I am doing here at the Pixie Knoll. If you like this idea, feel free to contact me at lori@thepixieknoll.com.

Painting, painting and more painting!

"Southwest Sunset" by Lori Platt
It is true, now that I have completed my sculpting course that had been offering at JoAnn Fabrics, I have branched out into a new creative venue as well. Now, don't worry, this doesn't mean that I have stopped sculpting by any means! As you know, that is the love of my creative heart! It just means I have decided to add a little bit more creative spice and fun into my life!
I have recently accepted a moonlighting position at a wonderful place called Creative Canvas and Wine, located in Cranes Roost, Altamonte Springs, Florida. www.creativecanvasandwine.com Most of you who know me personally, would agree that I am one of those sickening people with multiple creative talents, therefore, you would not be surprised to find me acting the role of artist instructor at such a cool and wonderful venue! It is a wonderful opportunity to express some creative freedom because not only am I one of the art instructors, but I will also be designing new paintings to be taught at the facility too!
Anyway, for those of you who have never heard of this really wonderful place, let me fill you in on the great happenings and how it works. It's definately a place where you can "get your paint on and find your creative muse". The idea is this, you do not have to have any artistic/painting talent whatsoever to qualify. All you need is yourself and be willing to have a great time, whether you come alone, or with a group of friends and family.
Check out the selected paintings offered on the calendar and register ahead of time for the painting/class that you like. Then, when that day arrives, you show up at the studio with your friends and family to get your paint on. :-) The classes last about 2.5 to 3 hours depending upon the painting. At that time, you will simply follow the direction of the art instructor who will guide you step-by-step on what to do so that you will create your very own painting! And, while you are painting along, you listen to a selection of music, drink, laugh, and have a really great time!
All the paints, brushes, and canvas are supplied at the studio for your class, including an apron to protect your clothes as well! There is also a bar in the studio to buy beer, wine, soda, or water so that you can get your muse on! The fee for the classes per individual is typically $35.00, with the purchase of your selected beverages seperately. At the end of the class, you will get a stamped "addicted to painting card". Fill this card out completely and you will receive a free painting class!
Don't forget to like them on Facebook and Twitter. There, you can find special discount prices from time to time, so be sure to check them out! Creative Canvas and Wine also helps to sponsor charitable community events/foundations too. Not only that, but they do birthday parties, and other special party events. They also have special "family" painting times that are perfect for the entire family!
My next instructing day is June 9th @ 7:00 p.m. I will be painting my very own design "Southwest Sunset". I will also be teaching the kid's camps schedule for June 11, 15, 18, and 22nd. As well as the kid's camps schedule for July 9, 13, 16, and 20th. The kid's camp paintings that I will be teaching (shown below) are also paintings that I have designed for the studio too.

Class Offering at JoAnn Fabrics, Tavares, Florida!!
Yes, folks, you read that correctly! I will be offering a class on how to make your very own one-of-a-kind doll at the JoAnn Fabrics in Tavares, Florida beginning on April 10, 2012. The class series is a total of 4 classes, each lasting 2 hours in total, on on Tuesday evenings. Class fees are set per class, so you will have to sign up for all 4 classes if you want to make your own complete doll. For those of you who live locally, you can register at the store and you will find the supply list their as well. I will provide your sculpting tool during class and a couple of other extra items too. What you create is your choice, but the idea is to get a basic knowledge from start to finish on how to create your very own one-of-a-kind doll.
Here is a doll I have just finished up to use as a prop for the class. I typically like creating fairies and pixes and such, but, sometimes you have to create something that is a little different. She is a little girl from the prairie.

Good news Bad news
To be honest, it's not really all that bad of news, but it's news all the same. :-) I found out yesterday that I did not win in the IADR contest for the Art from the Soul contest for February. Oh well, you win some and you lose some. It's what keeps us humble in the long run. Besides, the piece that one was an excellent doll by my dear friend in Australia, Ksheyna Nightswood. You don't mind losing if you lose to an excellent doll! Congratulations to my friend, Ksheyna!
Now, onward bound we go. Just because you lose a show, doesn't mean the show doesn't continue to go on. I have just finished up this cute little fairy made especially for a sweet elementary school teacher out in Colorado. This pesky little cubby fairy was created to wake up in the middle of the night and cause a ruckus inside the classroom (after sleeping all day mind you). She was named "Lucinda" by her new owner. The fairy is roughly 5 inches long and is poseable. I hope you all enjoy!

Entry piece for IADR contest finished!
After a month of toiling over the clay, my contest piece for the International Art Doll Registry is finished without a single minute to spare. All I can say is thank goodness for leap year! If we had not been blessed with this wonderful extra day this year, I would not have made it by the deadline for my entry as I literally worked to nearly midnight last night adding the final touches for this piece. The contest it is for is the "Art From The Soul" annual theme which is supposed to depict emotions and feelings. Again, I decided to go with smiling, happy characters, but this time, I not only had 2 characters, but 3, adding a friendly, but beastly dragon to the mix! I am hoping my luck continues with the theme and I win this competition once again like I did last year with the "Woodland Troubadours".
This year, the title of the piece is "Joy Ride"! It measures about 27" in length and approximately 20.5" in height. The 2 pixie riders are approximately 4.5 - 5" in length and are semi poseable. They are sculpted out of polymer clay and painted with fine artist acrylic paints and all have hand painted eyes. The pixies are sporting sheeps wool for hair and a hodge podge of fabrics for their clothing. The dragon is permanently on his base, but his wings are removeable for shipping purposes. Each of his tiny scales across his huge body were added one clay disc at a time to create an over-lapping feel to the scale work.
Anyway, I think the imagery speaks for itself, but just in case I missed the telling of the story by a few pages, the idea is one pixie rider is having a great time sitting up on the dragons neck looking at all the wonderful things there are to seen from a dragon's point of view way up in the sky flying around, while the 2nd rider is hanging on for dear life at the tail of the dragon...having the ride of a life time! :-D I hope you all enjoy the finished piece. Wish me luck on the contest!

IDEX 2012 Orlando: The First Day!
The moment we have all been waiting for has finally arrived! Today was set-up day for the IDEX show and believe me when I say it took all day to complete and a great deal of worker bees to get it ready for the big opening. Thanks to all the ladies who participated in the set-up today, I'd say we managed to pull of a pretty nice looking booth once again this year. As you can see, there was a great deal of items that needed to be placed around the tables with nearly 20 artist being represented in our booth alone! That is a great representation of the fine artist of the International Art Doll Registry! The slide show consist only of our final booth display once we were finished setting up, with a few snap shots of some of the gals. These are in no certain order mind you, and the lighting isn't the best, but, I think you all might enjoy them nonetheless. :-)
Finally finished!
For those of you who have been waiting to see what I have been so arduously working on, you will have to wait no longer! It is true, the dryad is finally finished and just in time for IDEX 2012. Actually, she has been finished for a few days now, but trying to get a good day to take pictures outside can be rather burdensome to say the least. One day there is too much wind, the next too overcast, and so the story goes. But, today, as you will see by the slide show, was a great day to take pictures. And so, without further adieu, here is "The Dryad". (yeah, I know, it is a little lackluster for a title, but, *shrug* we can't always be fancy.) And, for the curious minded, yes, there really is a big line in the middle of the tree. The reason is she measures 27" x 15", so due to her size, I had to make her in 2 seperate pieces in order to bake her in my house oven. That was an accomplishment in itself!
Again, keep in mind, that she is the beginning in a serious...just to get you accustomed to seeing something...uhm...different. haha Enjoy the pics. And remember, I really love to get feedback on what you think of the new pieces as they are finished. As always, thank you for following along!

So, now that you have seen The Dryad, I wanted to also show the re-dressing of "Xylia". Originally, when I created her, I used natural lichen for her clothing, which I thought was a very suitable item for clothing for a wood dweller. Well, apparently, this really was not a very smart idea as I had thought it to be originally. For some reason the lichen became very sticky and really created a mess. So, this is why she needed to have a do-over on her clothing. I was very happy with the lichen until I discovered the mess. Her make-over is not what I wanted in the beginning, but it will have to do. :-D At least she isn't running amuck naked through the woods!
So, I will bring with me on my trip to the IDEX 2012 show: The Dryad, The Woodland Troubadours, and Xylia.

Off to a strong start for a New Year!
As we embark on a new year, so must we travel the road to self-improvement, that idea we like to coin the good old fashioned "resolution"! Most of us make them, then turn around and break them. The idea though, is to be realistic about the goals we set for ourselves. In other words, those goals that are obtainable so we feel a since of accomplishment, self-worth, pride and success. Key words: Baby Steps! So, in my endeavor, I resolve to become and even better artist. ( I bet you didn't see that one coming at all! haha) This year, I intend to work on a series of work that relate to each other in a theme. What will the subject in the theme be? It's a very simple and deep-rooted theme: Life. (and yes, the pun was intended here as you'll fine down the road)
I have already began the first piece in this series that will more than likely consist of 5 pieces in total. This first piece will be one of the pieces that I am bringing to IDEX at the end of the month. Yes..you read that right! IDEX 2012 in Orlando! I will be displaying my work with the International Art Doll Registry. This is scheduled to take place on January 27-29. Here is the link so you can see what other fabulous artist will be displaying at the show!
http://www.regonline.com/builder/site/default.aspx?EventID=942999 If you are in Orlando for that weekend, I would love to meet you at the show. It's a great show with a lot of great artist from all around the world. I believe it is the biggest doll show in the U.S.! And, judging by the line up of artist, it will be a wonderful show to see. So, come on out and meet the artist and see the work in person!
In the meantime, I should get back to work or I'll not have this new piece finished in time for the show! Oh, I suppose I should tell you a little about what I'm working on. It is a Dryad, or "tree spirit". It stands about 2 feet tall! Yes, it really does. haha The figure is 1/2 human and 1/2 tree form. This is all the details at the moment. She is nearing completion and once she is finished, I'll stick some pictures up. I am really pleased with the outcome of this piece, and I'm most certain you all will be too. :-D

Wishing you all a Very Merry Christmas
and a Happy New Year!
I hope your Holidays are full of bountiful blessings
and lots of love.
Christmas at the Pixie Knoll
This is just a small update to show you all the last 2 commissions I have recently completed. Both were Santa Claus dolls made especially for a couple of dear people that I have met through my "real" every day job at the vets office. I am very happy to say that both of my collectors were VERY pleased with their Santas this year. It brings me great joy not only to create a special Santa for someone, but also to see the looks on their faces when they first set eyes upon their one-of-a-kind Santa. Those are some of the best moments for me! So, this is a special 'Thank you' to those 2 collectors who had faith in my skill and believed that I would produce a bit of Christmas Magic made special for them and their families. Without further adieu, here are the 2 Santas I completed this year. Enjoy!
On the First Row is "St. Nicholas" and on the Second Row is "Christmas in the 'Brink' of Time".

Quick Ornament Update!
I have now updated the Etsy store with the ornaments listed below as well as the remaining dolls I have left in my current stock that are not at the Hyder Gallery. I will be adding more ornaments in the store soon as well. In the meantime, feel free to purchase directly from the Etsy store as the shipping and prices have been set. You can find the store at www.pixieknoll.etsy.com Once again, thank you for your patronage!
Christmas Ornaments Galore!!
Finally, after a long wait, I have found the time to take the pictures for some of the OOAK Christmas ornaments I have been working on over the last few months. If you are looking for that special ornament to add to your collection for this year, then look no further as I'm sure if you don't see the one you want now, keep checking because there is something for everyone soon to be listed here soon! There are Santa's and Snowmen for your holiday picking pleasure. I will also be placing them in my Etsy store as time permits. So, if they are not listed there, then please, feel free to contact me by my email: lori@thepixieknoll.com with the ornament description and number as indicated. (You will receive that same ornament as request. So, it is very important to be certain you give me the name and number of the ornament. :-D)
The Santa ornaments are made from polymer clay, with hand-made eyes and painted with acrylic paints. They have natural sheeps wool for their beards and velvet hats with faux fur trim. Each of them have my initials under the hats as well. They measure approximately 5 inches in length each.
The Snowmen are also polymer clay with stocking net hats and have a nice textured glitter on the outside for added interest and sparkle! They also measure approximately 5 inches in length.
And, of course, the snowball head ornaments sport a felt top hat, and measure about 2-3" in diameter.
I can tell you that these pictures truly do not do these ornaments any justice at all. You really need to see them in person to appreciate the "Old World Charm" of the one-of-a-kind Santa ornaments and the "fluffy" appearance of the snowmen ornaments. These are not my words used to describe them...these are the words of previous buyers!

Gallery Opening a Success!
This is just a quick thank you to all those who attended the Hyder Gallery Center for Fine Art opening event this past Saturday evening. Judging from the amount of patrons who visited, it was a huge success! I really enjoyed meeting the visitors and the other artist in the gallery. It truly was a fantastic evening. Unfortunately for myself, I forgot to bring a camera to the event so that I could share the festivities with you. But, as luck would have it, I came across a wonderful lady who is a great supportor of the arts in my area, and she DID have her camera! So, thanks to Abbe Arenson and her wonderful blog, you can get a snippet of the event and see a sampling of some of the art inside the gallery here: http://abbesworld.wordpress.com/ Thanks, Abbe, for sharing with all of us!

The Verdict is Finally In....
The Colliii Awards has finally posted their final results. I am sad to say that I was not among the awardees, but I am happy for those that have won in their category. In particular, some of my friends in the doll world have placed in the competition so I am very pleased for their accomplishment. If you can't win yourself, it is better that a dear friend is the one that beats you to the mark! You can see all the category winners at the Colliii website www.colliii.com. Congratulations to all the winners this year at the Colliii Awards!
Still Waiting for Word....
The Colliii Awards still have not made their epic announcements as of this morning, 10/29/2011. According to their site, they were supposed to make the announcements on the 28th. I am certain there is a good reason for the delay. Stay tuned to www.Collliii.com for the announcement or feel free to keep checking in here. Again, thank you all for your patronage.
Gallery Acceptance at Hyder Gallery!
Recently, I stumbled across a new art gallery in Historic Downtown, Sanford, Florida, who had a "Call for Artist" notice taped to their front window. I decided to try my luck to see if by chance my artform would be of interest to the gallery curator. To my good fortunes, the curator and gallery owners loved my figures and have invited me to sign a contract with them to represent my work. The wonderful part is that I am not bound solely to their fascility but am permitted to have other galleries represent my work as well. Their mind set is that the more exposure an artist has via different galleries and opportunities, the better it is for that artist and the gallery representing them. Therefore, today made it official, I am now on the gallery listing at Hyder Gallery in Historic Downtown, Sanford, Florida. They intend to hopefully have a soft opening by the end of October if all the preparations go accordingly. Their official grand opening will be Saturday, November 5, 2011 for their first art show starting at about 6:30 p.m. For those interested, you may visit their website at www.hydergallery.com. Hopefully, I will see some of you at the opening!
Colliii Awards....Big News!
Well, folks, the first round of the Colliii Awards voting has been tallied and I am pleased to announce that 2 of my pieces, "Woodland Troubadours" (pictured below) and "Cecil's Snail Mail" (pictured left) have BOTH been nominated in the Fantasy Figure category to proceed to the final level of judging! I am so happy with this news that I am beyond words. :-D All I can say is thank you to all of you who went to vote and a heart-felt thank you for your continued support. Without your supprt, I would be just another hobbyist, but with your continued support and encouragement, you all are what help to make me an artist! Thank you! In the mean time, all is left to do, is wait for the final judging. We will not know the final judging until the end of October, around the 28th I believe. Continue to wish me luck!

Big News for Big Events!!!
Yes, yes, it's true, there is BIG news in the Knoll! Where, oh, where should I start!
It's official, I will once again be at the Mount Dora, Florida Fall Craft Festival on Saturday, October 22, 2011, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the The First Presbytarian Church at 222 West 6th Avenue. Although the festival is slated for both Saturday and Sunday, I will only be displaying on the Saturday at the church. This is when I will first make all of the ornaments available to the public. So, for you local folks who are interested in snagging up one of these ornaments, you will have first dibs on selection at the festival. I am not sure what I will have available that day as packing up for a single day show sas proven to be a bit much in the past couple of years. But rest assured, there will be at least a few pixies or something for your viewing and buying pleasure!
As for other BIG news, I have taken a very bold step for myself and have entered a VERY prestigious contest at www.colliii.com. The contest is a world-wide event and based out of Germany. There are quite a few categories for judging that encompasses many types of dolls in this huge contest. My entries can be found in 2 seperate categories, the "one-of-a-kind fantasy figure" and the "one-of-a-kind mini fantasy figure". One of the awards given is a "Viewers Choice Award". This is a wonderful award that is selected by the viewers!
As stated by the people at Colliii:
"You can take part in the online voting and help decide who wins gets nominated and wins awards in this years largest online doll making competition. The online voting will run from the 16th of September until the 30th of September and is free to all Colliii.com users".
So, in other words, you have a short time period to cast your votes! Registration is free and only takes a quick moment. So get out there and show your support for doll artist around the world (*cough, "me", cough*). It's a great way to get involved and show your support for your favorite artist!
My entries for this show are in order from left to right "Cecil's Snail Mail", "Hide and Seek" and "Woodland Troubadours". I had a tough time deciding which ones to pick, but I think I made good choices. I will let you good folks decide on that though. In the meantime, wish me luck! Oh, and remember to register at www.colliii.com so that you can cast your votes!

The Last Three Commissions!
I finally have found the time to put up pictures of the last three commission pieces that I had been working on over the spring and early summer months. I am happy to say that the recipients of all three commissions were very pleased with the outcome! As an artist of one-of-a-kind art dolls, I admit, that is it is very satisfying when the client gives you complete artistic freedom to create when they commission a piece of work, and in the end, they are extremely happy with the outcome. It's very satisfying indeed! Below, you will find the three pieces recently finished, from left to right, "Esther", "Adilyn" and "Veronica".
As previously mentioned, I have been very busy in my neck of the woods creating the Santa ornaments I spoke of in my last update. I estimate to have nearly finished about 50 of them! It's amazing at how much time it takes to create something as simple as a Santa face ornament. I admit, to me, they appear to have an "old world" Santa feel to them. I will have to let you all decide that though once they are completely finished. I have also decided to add snowmen to the mix this year. Currently there are only snowmen head ornaments complete with "carrot" noses in the making. I hope to elaborate on the snowmen ornaments and have a couple of options available for the snowman lovers out there in the world. Once I have my lots completed, I will post up a "lot" picture of all the pieces I have been working on. When you see them laid out in rows, it's nearly mind-boggling to see the amount of work laying there. You will have to wait until I'm finished to get a sneak peek of the ornaments.....until then, I'll catch you in the Knoll!

Slumber in the Knoll? Nonsense!
To some of you who have recently passed by the Knoll on their internet travels, I am certain it must seem like a period of inactivity here in the Knoll. But, do not worry dear friends; the lazy days of summer have not hit me just yet! The truth is that I have been very busy working on a few commission pieces over the last couple of months. I am currently finishing up with the final one....a little fairy. There were 4 altogether. Unfortunately, one was a failed project that took some of my time. Please see my blog for the explanations on this project. www.thepixieknoll.blogspot.com Recently, production has been slower than normal due to my youngest son graduating from high school, the added work hours from the "real" job, and the daily normal life that tends to get in the way of my creative liberties.
Anyway, while you are waiting for some pictures of these commission pieces to appear (again some of these you can see on my blog), I wanted to give you something to look forward too! Soon, I will begin work on my menagerie of Santa ornaments and will have them individually posted in my Etsy store once they are complete. Along side the ornaments, hopefully I'll have the time to create another Santa or two as well before Christmas hits. If time allows, I am planning on a Halloween piece too. We'll have to wait and see how things go.
There has also been talk from the group at the International Art Doll Registry to attend the IDEX show in Orlando this upcoming January. As you might have guessed, I could not resist the temptation of attending the show with my critters. With that said, I have a few ideas that have been tossing around in the old noggin for a while now just waiting to get out. I think its about time to start unleashing them out into the world of the Pixie Knoll.
So, there ya have it, Folks! Soon, there will be plenty of new stuff to see. So sit tight and make ready for the barrage of pixies and their friends that are soon to follow in the next few months.

April News Flash!!!
Recently, I was interviewed by Debbie McCain of the International Art Doll Registry as the spot light artist for the month of April, 2011. I am truly honored to be chosen as the spotlight artist. You can read the interview on the IADR website here: www.international-art-doll-registry.com/
Here is my recently completed project!
"Woodland Troubadours"
This project was created for the IADR February contest, "Art from the Soul". The idea of the theme was to depict emotions/feelings with our sculpt. I couldn't decide what mood I wanted to present, happy or sad/melancholic, so I chose to do them both! And, what better way to show these emotions than with a couple of woodland bards who share their tragic ballads and romantic poetry, happy dances with foot moving jigs, and the melancholic sounds of a gourd cello. Thus the concept came to life...Woodland Troubadours!
It consist of 2 figures on their single base display. The base measures approximately 12" x 19" and consist of faux moss rocks, crushed cork for the pebbles, real moss, faux butterflies, faux fernery and other plant like items. The sitting figure playing the gourd cello is 8" and the standing figure with the trumpet is 15". Their clothing is made of linens and faux leather. They have glass eyes, mohair, and have been painted with acrylic paints. The cello gourd is also hand-made out of polymer clay. The trumpet is a brass item saved from a Christmas gone by. Eventually, this duo will have a delightful story to accompany them. But in the meantime, let your imagination come to life and join these 2 bards on their journey in the Pixie Knoll.
Just a quick update on these wandering pixies for the curious-minded folks out there in the knoll. I am happy to announce that these fellas won in the advanced-level in the February contest at the International Art Doll Registry!! Thanks for all of your wonderful support and that "can do" spirit!
