Flying high over the Pixie Knoll is this wind-swept tinker gnome and his mechanical dragonfly contraption! He intends to fly the world over once again. He has already travelled to destinations very far away as evidenced by his steam trunk with all of the "stamps" marking the places he has visited throughout the world. Where he is off to this time, no one knows, but perhaps he is heading to your home next! He is fully prepared for this long journey as he has his spare parts hanging off of the dragon fly, just in case he needs to make a quick fix along the way. He has his compass in his hand so that he will always be able to find the way. Of course, someone really should tell him not to fly too fast because his pressure gauge is about to blow!
"The World Traveler" is a VERY LARGE sculpt! Fully assembled he measures approximately 2 feet x 2 feet x 2 feet...that is to say, wing to wing and tip to tip in all directions. The actual measurement of the dragonfly body is 28 inches in length and the sitting tinker gnome, if he could stand, would measure about 15 inches tall. Do not be put off by having to assemble this contraption as it is VERY EASY to assemble! (I will include directions for you...it's so simple that a little kid could do it blind-folded!) This particular piece has been published many times, has won awards in his travels as well, and is the crowd favorite where ever he lands. It goes without saying that he is a very special creation. This one-of-a-kind sculpture is definitely a statement piece and a wonderful conversation starter for any collector.
The tinker gnome is a fully sculpted figure and created from a wire and foil armature, polymer clay, then painted with acrylic paints and sealed for protection. His cap and goggles are permanently sculpted to his head; they are not removable. He wears sculpted leather-looking britches and shirt to add a bit of dare-devil flare to his character, along with his sculpted, laced-up leather boots. His scarf that flaps away in the wind is made of gauze-like fabric with a bit of wire inside so you can shape it to how the wind blows! His eyes are hand-made and he has dark brown mohair for hair. He holds a compass in his hand that is not removable. The tinker gnome is removable from the dragonfly base.
The mechanical dragonfly was created from wire and aluminum armatures, apoxie and paper clays, then painted with acrylic paints and sealed for protection. The steam trunk was also sculpted out of paper clay. The wings easily pull out of the dragonfly body and were created with wire and mulberry paper. The wheels under the dragonfly are a manufactured found item and permanently sculpted into the base. The wheels will spin if you turn them. The propeller at the end of the dragonfly is also a found plastic fan blade. The globe, gauges and spare parts are also permanently attached to the dragonfly. The lower portion of the base is a metal galvanized pipe that screws into the bottom of the dragon fly and then screws into the wooden plaque "world" base that the dragonfly flies over.
This is an extremly fun art work that will surely give you many years of viewing pleasure!
